NECM’s 5 Favorite Songs On Old Dominion’s ‘Happy Endings’

Old Dominion released their sophomore album, titled ‘Happy Endings,’ in August of 2017. Flash forward 7+ months later, and we still can’t get enough of this album! If you’re anything like us, you’ve had this album on repeat since last August. You can admit it- it’s okay! This album was phenomenal with hit-after-hit-after-hit. The first two singles off the album, ‘No Such Thing As A Broken Heart’ and ‘Written In The Sand,’ both hit the top of the charts. And there could arguably be another 5-6 songs that Old Dominion could release as singles from this album. Here are our five favorite songs from ‘Happy Endings.’

5.) ‘Stars In The City’ – This one makes the list because of the addition to Little Big Town to this track. The melody and the harmonies on this track are just awesome. Old Dominion + Little Big Town = HIT. We wouldn’t be surprised if this was the next single off the album.

4.) ‘No Such Thing As A Broken Heart’ – It’s been over a year since Old Dominion released this song to country radio and it eventually became their third Number One song. Co-written by three members of the group (and Jesse Frasure), this song features playful lyrics and a sound that’ll have you hooked on the first listen.

3.) ‘New York At Night’ – When we first listened to this album from top-to-bottom, we were blown away when we realized from the first few seconds that leadman Matthew Ramsey wasn’t the lead on this song. Guitarist Brad Tursi is the lead vocalist on this track and we absolutely love it! It’s fresh and so different from what we’ve come to know from Old Dominion!

2.) ‘Be With Me’ – This song is ridiculously infectious! You’ll learn the words from the first listen and it’s an easy sing-along in the car! Plus the message (and the accompanying video- which also features each of the band member’s moms at the end) is so powerful as it screams girl power which is something so great to see in today’s world, especially in country music when males dominate the radio waves. But Old Dominion makes a stand here with the message of ‘Be With Me.’

1.) ‘Can’t Get You’ – OK, so we’re very biased to this song- simply because we’ve been hooked on it for years! If you’ve been following Old Dominion for a few years, you probably saw them perform this in their live performances- but it wasn’t a song they cut until this album. ‘Can’t Get You’ was definitely a fan favorite, full of energy whenever they performed it live- something that Matthew Ramsey once told us that the band was always surprised about considering it wasn’t a song that they recorded but fans across the country seemed to know every word of the song when they would perform it live. We were shocked when it wasn’t on their debut album, but when we saw it was on ‘Happy Endings,’ we were absolutely stoked. Keep in mind that this song is only 3 minutes and 13 seconds long, so we gotta play this one at least 2 or 3, or even 4 times in a row with no shame.
