If you have listened country radio in the last year and a half, then you have definitely heard some hits from Kane Brown, who was nice enough to take the time to answer some questions for NECM. On July 14th Kane performed at the Jamboree in the Hills Festival in Ohio for the very first time. Playing this festival, the “Woodstock” of country music, is quite an honor. When asked about the Festival, Kane said he had never been but had seen videos. He says, “Ohio is pretty crazy and seems filled with drunk rednecks.” He was very excited to be there!
Kane recently played two shows in New England. He headlined shows at Toby Keith’s Bar and Grill in Foxborough, Ma and the other at the Wolf Den at Mohegan Sun in CT. When asked if he preferred a big arena to these smaller venues, he said he just “loves to have fun” and he’ll play anywhere “as long as all his stuff fits on the stage.” When opening for bigger shows he has a smaller time slot and only really plays his uptempo songs to warm up the crowd for some bigger names. However his favorite songs to play live are ‘Pull it Off,’ ‘Used to Love You Sober’,’ ‘What Ifs,’ and ‘Thunder in the Rain.’
The video for his newest single ‘What If’s,’ a duet with Lauren Alaina, was nominated for the CMT Breakthrough Video of the Year. Kane said he and Lauren go ‘way back to seventh grade.’ The video was so much fun, just like hanging out used to be and was filled with ‘laughing and cracking smiles.’ This was his favorite of the three videos he has made. The first video was a recording of a live performance and the second one, a random actress was hired, which was difficult because he had to ‘pretend to know her.’ Working with Lauren was genuine. When asked about the future and who his dream collaboration would be with, he chuckled. He said he has something he is working on and is very excited about but, is not allowed to say anything. Intriguing and something to look forward to! It wasn’t too long ago when Kane was a face in the crowd although when asked about his favorite concert he attended before his breakthrough in Nashville, he said, “Well, I only went to one – so it would have to be that one.” It was a concert with Brad Paisley and Chris Young. He’s come full circle – now he is opening with Chris Young for Jason Aldean on the They Don’t Know Tour this summer. Unfortunately, the tour has already played in New England, but Kane Brown is excited to come back and play here again in the future.
