Kalie Shorr: ‘Slingshot’ EP Review

Kalie Shorr released her brand new EP, ‘Slingshot,’ on March 3rd, 2017. Shorr wrote the EP with her best songwriter friends and each song has a truthful perspective from her life experiences thus far. Each songs tells a story or teaches a lesson and Shorr’s vocals will make you want to get up and dance right as you play the first track!

1) ‘Fight Like A Girl’ – Written by Kalie Shorr, Lena Stone, and Hailey Steele.
Impression: The EP opens with the first single Shorr released before the EP came out called ‘Fight Like A Girl.’ She wrote the song with two of her best friends to empower women not only in the music scene but in general. Kalie sees the song as an anthem for herself and girls everywhere have made it their own anthem as well! Filled with strong electric guitar riffs and catchy licks, the song will immediately win you over and make you want to hear the rest of ‘Slingshot!’
Favorite Lyrics: I’m perfume sweet and whiskey strong, I damn sure ain’t no underdog…

2) ‘He’s Just Not That Into You’ – Written by Kalie Shorr, Lena Stone, and Emily Reid.
Impression: The second song on the EP is the second single Kalie released from the EP. ‘He’s Just Not That Into You’ was released along with a fun music video featuring her closest friends that has racked up over 78,000 views on YouTube! The song is super catchy and completely relatable for any girl who has been stood up by a guy. In her promotional video for the song, she explained that when writing it, she, Stone, and Reid all could relate to the same situation which made the song close and truthful to all of them.
Favorite Lyrics: Dressed up at the bar you showed up fifteen minutes late. Cause you thought you’d be the one to make him wait…

3) ‘Nothin’ New’ – Written by Kalie Shorr, Lacy Green, and Emily Landis.
Impression: ‘Nothin New’ has a more chill vibe compared to the rest of the tracks on ‘Slingshot.’ The lyrics are impeccable, using metaphors that are so relatable. The day they wrote the song, Shorr, Green, and Landis were participating in a YouTube event where they had to write a song in a few hours and perform it that night for a video to be put on YouTube. The pressure was on for them to write a good song, and they succeeded! The song is about a love that disappears but the heartbreak still remains and paints the perfect picture of how that feels.
Favorite Lyrics: The sun’s always gonna set in the west. Lipstick and convertibles are better in red. The best songs are three chords and the truth, but that ain’t nothin’ new…

4) ‘Love Like That’ – Written by Kalie Shorr, Jason Afable, and Eric Mallon.
Impression: ‘Love Like That’ is a bouncy, sassy, and fun track. Right from the first few seconds of hearing the track you’ll want to dance after you hear the fun rhythm and Kalie laughing in the background. The song is inspired by a guy Kalie dated her junior year of high school who Kalie describes as “clueless.” The song follows the story of this boy and uses hilarious and clever lines to essentially ask him where he learned to love like that.
Favorite Lyrics: Well did you get a full ride to the college of casanova? Get a BS in giving cold shoulders?

4) ‘Odds Are’ – Written by the Barenaked Ladies.
Impression: ‘Odds Are’ is the only track on the EP that Shorr didn’t write. It is actually a cover of a Barenaked Ladies song that Shorr put her own country twist on. The message of the song is positive with a chorus repeating ‘Odds are we’re gonna be alright tonight.’ The song holds a message that everyone should hear and Kalie’s vocals make you want to dance at the same time!
Favorite Lyrics: But it’s a twenty-three four-to-one that you can fall in love by the end of this song. So get up, get up, tell the bookie put a bet on ‘not a damn thing will go wrong…’

So in conclusion, odds are you should go check out ‘Slingshot’ right now! You can purchase the EP on iTunes here.
