Female Artists Lead in Country Grammy Nominations.

Announced last week, Brandi Carlile, Kasey Musgraves, and Maren Morris lead in Country/Americana Grammy Nominations for 2019. Brandi Carlile came out on top of the genre with seven total nominations including those for the cross-genre Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Album Of The Year. Kasey Musgraves raked in six total nominations including one for the cross-genre Album Of The Year. Morris dominated with 5 total nominations due to the success of her collaborations with Zedd on the pop hit ‘The Middle’ and on ‘Dear Hate’ with Vince Gill.

Maren, however, was just the start of country artists receiving nominations in categories for other genres. Chris Stapleton was recognized for his collaboration with Justin Timberlake on ‘Say Something’ for the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Willie Nelson received a nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for ‘My Way.’ Other noteworthy nominations include Luke Combs and Margo Price for Best New Artist.

Women continued to represent in all country nominations, a refreshing change in comparison to the male dominated award shows our genre has come to know. Women were contributing artists in at least 3 of 5 nominations for every award in the country genre. Below are the awards that included a predominately country artist as a nominee.
