Delta Rae put forth their debut major label EP, titled ‘A Long And Happy Life,’ on March 24th and delivered a four song set with versatility and talent made for a full album. The vocals are strong, crisp, and have a touch of folk to them. The lyrics are relatable, deep, and fun with melodies that are sure to make your ears pleased.
1.) ‘A Long And Happy Life’ – Written by Eric Holljes and Ian Holljes.
Impression: In this opening track of their EP, Delta Rae comes out strong on all levels with this title track. The vocals are crisp and powerful, the melody is upbeat and catchy, and the lyrics tell a story of finding your missing piece. Learning to love comes from the place you grow up – how you’re raised and who surrounded you. ‘A Long And Happy Life’ is a feel good song that you will certainly want to check out.
Favorite Lyrics: And it ain’t a mystery you fell for me. We’re just two lost souls trying to find our peace…
2.) ‘I Moved South’ – Written by Eric Holljes and Ian Holljes.
Impression: Delta Rae takes a different approach to this song with its two female singers, Brittany and Elizabeth, taking turns singing line of its verses and then coming together to sing the last line of the verse as well as the chorus. The second song of their EP is assumed to be the song that tells the story of how Delta Rae began to form. It talks about moving to the south because everything is better. It also mentions how they purchased a tour bus and started touring. This song has a unique tactic that helps make it that much stronger, and helps tell the story of Delta Rae much better because of the two perspectives.
Favorite Lyrics: I always wanted summer; I was tired of the snow. I wanna find a lover where the sweet magnolias grow…
3.) ‘No Peace In Quiet’ – Written by Eric Holjes, Tiffany Goss and Adam Wood.
Impression: In a soft and serene lullaby melody, ‘No Peace In Quiet’ is mesmerizing! The lyrics cut deep as it illustrates the pain that is left when quietness sinks in – the remembering of the sound of their voice, the way they would walk across the hall, and the words you never said scream inside your head at night.
Favorite Lyrics: Ghosts don’t stand a chance against the radio, that’s why I turn the music up to sleep…
4.) ‘Ain’t Love’ – Written by Eric Holljes and Ian Holljes.
Impression: In the final song of the EP, Delta Rae closes with ‘Ain’t Love.’ The fourth track recounts the love felt in a toxic relationship. It doesn’t feel like love unless it hurts, unless it’s being screamed at, unless it’s coming home late at night looking for a fight. However, the only way to heal yourself is through that person.
Favorite Lyrics: A broken heart looks good on me and I know you mean it, but I won’t believe you til you’re almost screaming…
