It’s here. Country music’s favorite couple has done it again, this time with an edgier taste. Thompson Square recently released their latest single, ‘Trans Am.’ The song gave Keifer and Shawna the highest debut add week of their career, as the duo breathed a sigh of relief to fan’s reactions regarding their new sound. “All the hard work to do everything we can do personally to assure a good add week feels great to have it pay off,” said Keifer. The new tune may be exactly what country music fans want to hear out of the band.
The two took a little time off from performing to focus on their next album, which is set to release later this year. ‘Trans Am,’ a great teaser of what’s to come on the record, will leave fans ready for the new flavor. “The whole project is very aggressive. Shawna and I, when we listen to music, we listen to a lot of rock, indie, the weird stuff,” Keifer laughed. The decision was made; this was their chance to mix up the usual Thompson Square sound.
‘Trans Am,’ which was written by Thompson Square with Blair Daly and Nathan Chapman, starts off with the racy lyrics, ‘She’s fast, she’s loud, looks pretty damn good with her top off. She’s clean, looks nice, you can still see her shine with the lights off.’ It was Shawna’s idea to put in the double entendre words, something that was the furthest thing from her husband’s mind. “With an American muscle car, it just made sense. It was cool that she suggested that,” said Keifer. “I don’t care if we’re married, we’re not gonna hang our hats on that. It’s just a fun song and everyone’s having fun with it.” It was Daly who had the title ready, and the words just seemed to follow.
Fans can expect to not get any rest when seeing Thompson Square live this year. The tempo will be high with the rock-and-roll mentality mixed with country. Keifer and Shawna will continue touring and working on finishing their record, set to come out later this year, an album that will follow in the footsteps of ‘Trans Am.’ Another thing possibly in the works? A new Trans Am for the couple, as it only seems right to add to their collection now.
