Thomas Rhett: ‘Crash and Burn’ Single Review

Today, April 7th, ACM Award finalist for New Artist of the Year, Thomas Rhett, released the first song, titled ‘Crash and Burn,’ off his upcoming album. So what did New England Country Music make of this new single?

From the first listen, we were in love! ‘Crash and Burn’ definitely has a different sound from both traditional country AND the mainstream country we have been hearing for the last couple years. ‘Crash and Burn’ has this soulful and groovy sound despite talking about a somber subject (a break up). Over the past few months, we have seen Thomas Rhett do an amazing cover of Bruno Mars’ ‘When I Was Your Man’ as well as covering Mars’ current hit song ‘Uptown Funk’ across the country while on the Anything Goes tour. So it seems that Rhett may have pulled some influence from Bruno Mars into ‘Crash and Burn.’

Written by Chris Stapleton, and with Rhett’s undeniable vocals, after one listen, you will need to listen to it again. What may be the most interesting aspect of the song is the balance of the lyrics with the sound. Lyrically, it is a heartbreaking song. But the sound of the track is just so fun. The lyrics and sound are on two very ends of the spectrum yet they work perfectly together.

We expect this track to be ALL OVER country radio this summer. It definitely has the potential to be a number one, and we think it will do just that, and quickly. ‘Crash and Burn’ is fun and addictive while also being extremely refreshing from what we hear in mainstream country today. It’s got soul, it’s got funk, it’s got success written all over it.

Great job, Thomas Rhett. Great job!

Favorite Lyric: “A slamming door and a lesson learned, I let another lover crash and burn…”
