Honestly, WTF Wednesday isn’t something we’ve ever done before and I hope it’s something we don’t have to do again but frankly I didn’t know what to name this piece. It’s really the first thing to came to mind when I saw a song called ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X debuted on the Billboard Country Airplay Chart.
Look, we get it. Country music isn’t the same that it was 10, 15, 20 years ago. We also get the music evolves. Pop isn’t the same as pop was 15 years ago. Neither is rock, or rap, or whatever. We get that artists like Kane Brown and FGL have released songs that definitely fray the lines of country and pop, even with some rap influences. This isn’t about them. This is about a song that is being billed a country song that in no way shape or form is a country song. Just because it mentions horses, a tractor, and boots, and a town road doesn’t make it a country song.
And quite frankly, what friggin’ radio station(s) are playing this song that it’s on the actual airplay charts. If you hear this shitty song on a country radio station, change the channel. This song isn’t good and it sure as hell isn’t country.
