Waterloo Revival Wraps Up A Whirlwind Year at Mohegan Sun

Waterloo Revival played their last show of 2015 on December 3rd at Mohegan Sun’s Wolf Den. Earlier this year, Scott Borchetta signed them to Big Machine Label Group within a week of hearing them. Since then, they have released two singles, ‘Hit the Road’ and ‘Bad For You,’ and have been busy touring and working on their debut album due out early 2016.

The duo played many of their new songs in their 75-minute set. One of our favorites was the feel-good ‘Good Night in America.’ Before playing the song lead singer George Birge told the crowd, “There’s way too much negative energy, we decided to write a song about living in the best country in the world.

One of the things that stood out about the performance was that the guys had big genuine smiles on their faces the entire time. They were clearly grateful for the opportunity and loving every minute of being on stage. As they told the crowd, “This is our dream to play stages like this for folks like you.” The duo has been playing together since 6th grade. Cody actually was the one who taught George to play guitar. After going separate ways for college and spending time in the ‘real world,’ they only recently decided to pursue music for a living.

The Wolf Den is an open venue in the middle of Mohegan Sun. People walking by are able to see and hear the show. More than any other show I’ve seen there, the venue continually filled up as the show went on. Each song the guys played pulled more and more people in. One song where this was particularly noticeable was their cover of R Kelly’s ‘Remix to Ignition.’

One of the more fun parts of the night was a song called ‘Backwood Bump.’ George explained that the two were hanging out writing one day and decided that there weren’t enough songs in country today with dance moves built in, so they decided to create one of their own. The now full crowd danced along with what will hopefully be the next big dance craze!

After the fun upbeat dance party, the boys got serious for a little bit playing ‘Damn I Couldn’t Give’ which they introduced as one of the favorite songs they’ve ever written. We’re really looking forward to hearing this one on the album. The set wrapped up with Waterloo’s two singles to date, which had the fans singing along.

Waterloo Revival certainly have a bright future ahead of them. Their incredible songwriting and live performances are undeniable. To learn more about the guys you can check out the transcript our #NECMChat with them here.
