Waterloo Revival released their first official record, ‘Front Row,’ on March 11th, and it’s a collection of songs the duo couldn’t be more proud of. The six songs on the EP truly epitomize who Waterloo Revival is, both as songwriters and musicians. Each track on the record gives a different feeling, so no matter where you are in life, you can find something to relate to. Whether it’s heartbreak, regret, passion, or joy, we all go through ups and downs, and the duo wanted this EP to look like that ride. So with help from family, friends, and their management, the pair narrowed the selection down from around one hundred songs to the six that made it on this record. George and Cody have been blown away by their fans’ responses so far, as everyone has nothing but praises for the duo.
1.) ‘Summer Thing’
Impression: The record kicks off with an ode to summer, giving off nothing but positive vibes. Turn it up and close your eyes; the lyrics paint a picture of a perfect summer – a hot beach, a cold drink, a reggae band, and a summer romance. This song is a light at the end of winter’s tunnel and has us looking forward to the warmer weather ahead. It’s got a laid back, carefree feel to it which perfectly embodies the feeling of the season. Just listening to the first few seconds is enough to boost your mood. It’s the perfect opener for the EP, hooking you in and leaving you wanting more.
Favorite Lyrics: You got the hot, I got the cold beer. You call the shots as long as we’re here, watching our worries disappear…
2.) ‘I Could Get Used to This’
Impression: This song tells the perfect story of falling in love. The verses describe moments at the beginning of a relationship that sound so personal, you can tell the song is based on a true story. This track is softer and showcases the pair’s more soulful side. It’s full of picturesque lyrics throughout the verses and a catchy chorus that’ll stick with you long after the song ends.
Favorite Lyrics: I love this feeling whatever it is, and I got a feeling that I can get used to this…
3.) ‘The Damn I Didn’t Give’
Impression: ‘The Damn I Didn’t Give’ is both George and Cody’s favorite song on the record. Lyrically, it’s one of the strongest tracks on the EP, describing the feeling you get when you see your ex with someone new. You know the saying, ‘you never know what you have until you’ve lost it.’ The song perfectly portrays an array of emotions including regret, anger, shock, and sadness. It’s on the slower side and builds to a powerful and emotional chorus. The duo wrote this song when they first moved to Nashville, and it’s clear why they’ve kept it at the top of their list all this time.
Favorite Lyrics: Until seeing you here with him talking laughing, sparkle back in your eye, girl you’re acting like you don’t have a care in the world…
4.) ‘Backwood Bump’
Impression: What record is complete without a care-free, fun, party song? For Waterloo Revival, ‘Backwood Bump’ is it. This song is the anthem to a Friday night, and it’s one you’ll want to turn all the way up. It starts with steady beat and a little strumming that’ll get your toes tapping and your head bobbing. The chorus is complete with it’s own choreography, instructing you to ‘Spin it round, dip it down, ‘til you hear the baseline thump / Front, back, side to side, that’s how we do the Backwood Bump.’ However, according to the duo, there is no official dance… yet. Regardless, this song is 3 minutes and 36 seconds of fun. You’ll want to play this track at parties, weddings, even blasting in your car as you leave work on Friday.
Favorite Lyrics: If there’s a message on your phone that’s me, if it’s sayin’ bring a case bring three, just ask Siri where the good times be…
5.) ‘Front Row’
Impression: The duo changes the vibe with this one. They turn the tempo down and turn the romance up. This track is definitely the sexiest one on the EP. As the title track to the record, listeners might assume that ‘Front Row’ refers to the front row of a concert, but that’s not the case here. The lyrics describe a seductive woman ‘putting on a show, and I’m sitting front row…’ Even the most provocative lyrics are still tasteful, but this one definitely turns up the heat.
Favorite Lyrics: Come a little closer, let’s turn these two shadows into one…
6.) ‘Meet Up in the Middle’
Impression: The duo closes the album with the upbeat, fun and flirty, ‘Meet up in the Middle.’ It captures that excitement of anticipating a first kiss. It’s a moment you’ve been looking forward to and you’ve reached the point of, ‘Just kiss me already!’ The melody is beyond catchy, and this song is just downright cute. It’s one you’ll want to listen to over and over again.
Favorite Lyrics: That little look says you want to, that wish you would is painted on you, so what are we doing playing all of this hard to get…
George and Cody consider themselves songwriters first and foremost – as they should – because these two can write a damn good song. Any one of the tracks from this EP would play extremely well on country radio, and whichever one they choose to release as their first single is sure to be a hit. This entire collection is full of clever lyrics and catchy melodies. If ‘Front Row’ is just a preview of what’s to come on a full album, we’d place our bets on a long and successful career for Waterloo Revival.
