Thomas Rhett Brings The Heat with a Sold Out Show in Mansfield!

It’s been a hot summer and it got any hotter with one of the most anticipated shows of the summer, Thomas Rhett’s Very Hot Summer Tour, when it came to the Xfinity Center in Manfield last Friday night! The tour also featured Dustin Lynch, Russell Dickerson and Rhett Akins- yes, TR’s father!

If you didn’t know, Rhett has had a great career writing songs for some of your favorite stars such Blake Shelton, Jon Pardi, Jason Aldean oh and his son, Thomas Rhett. But Rhett also has had a solo artist career of his own. His set would feature a mix of his original songs and songs he’s written for other artists. Rhett kicked it off with Jon Pardi’s ‘Dirt On My Boots,’ saying after, “What’s happening y; all. My name is Rhett Akins. I’vespent the last 10 years in Nashville writing songs for my buddy. I wrote this one for Jason Aldean” – the song, ‘When She Says Baby,’ had the crowd singing and dancing along. He again addressed the crowd by saying “The first time I played here was 1995 with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith...” Talk about a throwback! He would continue his set with ‘Just Getting Started,’ ‘Boys Round Here,’ and finishing with his original and an absolute jam if you don’t know it, ‘That Ain’t My Truck.’

If you showed up to Mansfield tired after a long week of work or just a look day, Russell Dickerson got you out of that funk with one hell of a set. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone with more energy on stage. Talk about stage presence. His night started with ‘Billions’ before moving into a crowd favorite ‘Every Little Thing’ and then ‘Float.’ He’d address the fans by saying, “Country music fans are the best in the entire world!” You got that right, RD.

Russell would slow it down with ‘Yours’ followed by ‘Blue Tacoma.’ But the RD Party was just getting started. No Russell Dickerson show his complete without the infectious ‘My Girls Night Out.’ This song had the whole crowd going and it seemed that RD had drawn in all the fans from the parking lots and concessions as the venue was packed by the end of the set. Russell wanted to show his appreciation so decided to take a lap around the venue before returning to the stage to show off his dance moves and finish his song. Watch out, Luke Bryan. Russell Dickerson is coming for your dancing crown! I was uberly impressed with Russell’s set. This was my first time seeing him live and I will definitely be seeing him again when he comes through the area.

Next up was a New England favorite, Dustin Lynch. We go back with Dustin as he was one of the first artists who worked with us so seeing a capacity crowd in their seats when Dustin took the stage was awesome. He started with ‘Seein’ Red’ before moving into ‘One Hell Of A Night,’ a new song called ‘Red Dirt’ and ‘Yep Yep’ before addressing the crowd for the first time saying, “This energy is unbelievable. You guys always bring it at this venue! I wanna get weird tonight.” Dustin continued with ‘Mind Reader,’ ‘I’d Be Jealous Too,’ and his classic hit ‘Cowboys and Angels.’

Blown away by the crowd reaction, Dustin again took his mic to communicate his feelings to the fans. “This is incredible. I can’t even hear myself up here. You guys have been the most supportive place for us since we started doing this!” Lightening up the mood, he told the crowd that his bassist is a ‘Masshole.’ “We got the whole family here tonight. Here’s how redneck he is… his family drove a whole school bus into the tailgate tonight,” Dustin said laughingly. He continued with a medley of songs that influenced him from his first country song by George Strait to where he is today with different artists who have taken him on the road. The medley included songs like Alan Jackson’s ‘Chattahoochee,’ Tim McGraw’s ‘Something Like That,’ Dierks Bentley’s ‘What Was I Thinking,’ and Keith Urban’s ‘Someone Like You.’

Dustin would conclude his night with ‘Ridin’ Roads,’ ‘Good Girl,’ with Dustin telling the crowd,”You changed our lives with that one,” and finally ‘Small Town Boy.’ With a bow with his band and a wave to the crowd, Dustin retreated backstage and the stage crew began the transformation of the stage for the man of the night, Thomas Rhett.

As the lights went down, the crowd was buzzing as they awaited the arrival of Thomas Rhett. And with a bang, TR was sprung multiple feet in the air from his riser in the center of the stage. He got the party going with ‘Look What God Gave Her,’ and continuing with ‘Crash and Burn, ‘ Something Like That,’ and ‘Craving You,’ saying in between that (Boston) was his favorite city to play in!

The night continued with ‘Sixteen,’ and ‘It Goes Like.’ Before playing ‘Remember You Young,’ TR told the fans, “My wife is having another baby. The song relates more and more to me.” Next up was ‘Make Me Wanna’ which smoothly transitioned into Justin Timberlake’s ‘Suit and Tie.’ After ‘Life Changes,’ Thomas exclaimed, “You’re hands down the best crowd we’ve played for all year!” Fresh off his recent album was ‘That Old Truck’ before ‘Star Of The Show,’ which Thomas explained, “I wrote this song about my wife, Lauren, who is back in Nashville. She would freakin’ love you guys!

Next up would be a song he co-wrote for a duo that headlined the venues just a few weeks before, Florida George Line. The song? ‘Round Here’ – singer, songwriter; TR does it all. He followed that song with another song off his new album, ‘Beer Can’t Fix,’ which Dustin Lynch and Russell Dickerson joined in on before Rhett came back out with a cooler full of… beer, of course! During ‘Vacation,’ Thomas would introduce the members of his band and would also put on a show of his own when he took a seat at his very own drumset at the top of his riser. But the night was far from over as he wrapped it up with ‘Marry Me,’ ‘Die A Happy Man,’ ‘Unforgettable,’ and ‘T-Shirt’ – all of which had fans singing so loud that you could hear it loud and clearly from the parking lot!

It was an incredible night of country music at the Xfinity Center with one of the genre’s biggest stars. It was already a hot summer but Thomas and his buddies made it even hotter with this show.

If you missed this show, don’t worry! Thomas is coming back to New England next month when he plays the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, CT! Tickets for that show can be purchased here.

Dustin Lynch: ‘Good Girl’ Single Review

If you haven’t noticed, Dustin Lynch completely wiped out his Instagram page back in February and started from scratch. Now he only posts video clips that showcase single moments of his real, private life. This allows his fans to really connect with him on a personal level. While on the topic of being private and personal, Lynch’s latest single ‘Good Girl’ is filled with personal meaning. Since Dustin is still searching for his one true love, this song showcases the journey that comes along with searching for a ‘Good Girl’ to spend the rest of his life with.

The timing of the release of ‘Good Girl’ is everything. It dropped on May 5th, with the start to summer right around the corner. This means that before long our weekends will be filled with cook-outs, beach days, country concerts and bonfires! With the warm air fast approaching, comes the thought of summertime love. ‘‘Good Girl’ is a song about love. Though not just a fling, a real, true, long-lasting loving relationship with the girl of his dreams that he can take home to his Mama. It is an upbeat country tune. The lyrics are a play on the definition of ‘Good Girl.’ Swapping back and forth from describing to a “girl” how “good” things can be to meaning a girl that is genuinely good in nature. As the lyrics go: I got it good girl…’Cause I got myself a good girl. A foot-tapping, hand clapping percussion beat leaves the listener wanting to play it again! This tune is on its way to being a summertime jam in no time!

Lynch, a Tullahoma, Tennessee native penned ‘Good Girl’ along with Justin Ebach and Andy Albert. In an interview with People, Lynch mentioned that his cowriters “have already found their “good girl… So they were probably writing from a different spot than I am.” Lynch also told People: “The inspiration behind the song is probably me longing to find that person. I think finding that special someone is something we’re all hurtin’ to do. [The inspiration for this song is] just knowing that that person is out there somewhere for me… and knowing that my mom wants me to find her more than anybody.” Lynch will have to continue his search for love while playing shows around the country on his current tour. Unfortunately, none of his stops this summer will be in New England.

If you’re not already following Dustin Lynch on Instagram, be sure you do. You may just catch a clip of him in the shower, the moment he heard ‘Good Girl’ on the radio for the first time! Be sure to check out his Facebook and Twitter pages as well.

‘The Difference’ According To Tyler Rich.

Up and coming country artist, Tyler Rich was raised in Yuba City, California. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and put a promising career on hold to pursue music. Tyler Rich’s family has always been supportive of his musical interests. During his teenage years his uncle taught him to play the guitar. Interestingly, at a young age, Rich never had dreams of being in a real band. All he ever wanted to do was to play guitar with his uncle and his friends. In a recent interview with New England Country Music he explained: “Every time we had family get-togethers they’d all show up with all their acoustics and we’d just sit around for hours playing songs.” Flash forward several years and now he is far into the journey of being a successful country star.

Tyler Rich sat down with NECM and gave us some insight about his new single ‘The Difference’, which was released in early February. It is a fun, catchy song that will have you singing along to it all day. Rich explained that he first heard ‘The Difference’ when he was three and a half hours into a five-hour long pitch meeting. “There’s a swagger to the song. I knew right away that I needed to have the song. So many things about the song reminded me of things that I write. It felt like me and so many things that my fiancé and I talk about all the time about the difference between certain aspects of love.”

Although this song was written by Rhett Atkins, Devin Dawson, Ben Burgess, and Jacob Durett, Rich feels that it is a song very similar to the over one hundred tunes he has penned. He said that he really connected with this particular song because of the lyrics. In fact, upon getting the song, he told his fiancé, “Babe, I’ve got good news, I think I’ve found a hit. And I’ve got bad news, that you’ve been feeding me these lyrics for two years and I hadn’t written it.” Rich talked about how his fiancé and he frequently discuss the difference between “love you” and “I love you.” His favorite lyrics come from the second verse: “Sittin’ it out and Girl, let’s dance.” Rich goes on to say, “I don’t dance, ever. My fiancé dances when music is not even playing. When you think about somebody that has really made a difference in your life and changes you and makes you different. I think about the fact that anybody can make me dance was massive.”

‘The Difference’ was recorded at the legendary Blackbird Studio in Nashville. Influential artists such as Johnny Cash, Garth Brooks, George Strait, and Kenny Chesney have all recorded there. Rich was fortunate to work with Julian Raymond and Lindsay Rimes. “Lindsay and I did some of the pre-production stuff ahead of time. Julian hired this incredible studio band.” As far as the recording process, Rich said “It was such a fun experience. We just knew two hours into it that man, this is just special. Halfway through the first day in the studio doing “The Difference’, everybody knew this is it.”

While on the topic of recording, Rich is expecting his full-length album to be released later in 2018. He said the new album is coming along “slowly but surely. It’s all a very strategic thing. As an artist you want to be able to write ten songs, record them, and release it. But there’s much more to that. We get pitched new songs and just go out on the road and see which ones the crowd reacts to the most. Another song gets written and then that one knocks this one out. Everything’s got its own little flavor. Every song is going to bring a little bit of something new to the table. When you listen to my album I want every song that you hear to be like, yeah this is color-rich. But I don’t want every song that you hear to be like man that sounds like the last one.”

Although his roots are in California, Rich has made the move to Nashville. He had some great advice for a young artist getting ready to make that leap: “Number one, you’re not as good as you think you are! And I mean that in the nicest way possible. Just be kind to people. Be genuine. Nashville is a city that is 100% just about relationships. You can have this amazing talent but if you don’t have the personality or the loyalty – You need that to go with it. If you think you can do it from where you’re at and you’re not in Nashville, you’re dead wrong. Write with any and everybody that you possibly can every day of the week. Everybody, including myself, we have this syndrome where it’s called, you think that the last song you wrote is the best song you wrote! Just keep writing and writing. You’ll surprise yourself every day. You’ll just keep getting better. I cannot stress enough to be genuine. Be nice to people.”

The one person that Tyler Rich has learned the most from since his journey out on the road began is Dustin Lynch. He refers to Lynch as his “Obi-Wan Kenobi!” “Dustin Lynch’s management company reached out to me and said you know, we’ve been watching you online for a few months and think you need to get out to Nashville. You come out here and we’d love to meet with you. The first meeting that I ever took, Dustin was actually at the meeting. He said “You have to live in town. You have to write as much as you can. He never mentioned anything about co-writing at all and I was in town for about a year and once he felt like I had been writing songs that were good enough and that I was ready he took me out on the road. I’ve been touring with him off and on for about two years and I mean he’s taught me almost everything I know about the industry, and about what it takes, and what won’t cut it and what will cut it and I’m still learning every day as I know Dustin’s probably still learning every day. I’m lucky to have a mentor that teaches you what he learns as he goes. It’s funny cause we’re the same age but he’s kinda like my older brother. But we hang out as friends the same age but then when it comes to the industry, he’s my Obi-Wan Kenobi.”

‘The Difference’ goes out to radio in April. Tyler Rich will be visiting radio stations for the next few months promoting the single. His full-length album is expected to be released in 2018. This summer, he will start playing festivals and shows all across the country. We here at New England Country Music, want to thank Tyler Rich for taking the time out of his busy schedule to talk with us. Here’s hoping we see him in New England soon!
