Russell Dickerson: ‘Blue Tacoma’ Single Review

‘Blue Tacoma’ is the latest single to be released from Russell Dickerson’s twelve-song debut studio album titled ‘Yours.’ This song will already be familiar to Russell Dickerson fans as it was part of his earlier EP. ‘Blue Tacoma’ also made it’s television debut as Dickerson performed it on week four of The Bachelorette in 2017. Most notably, it was featured on the soundtrack of the movie Logan, the tenth installment of the X-Men flim series. Given the attention that it has had thus far, ‘Blue Tacoma’ is well on its way to becoming another country hit. Those new to Dickerson’s music will be hearing it soon as it will be released to country radio on March 5, 2018.

Here in New England, the cold winter weather is finally giving way to the warmth and sunshine of spring. Our thoughts are of carefree summertime days and the sound of ‘Blue Tacoma’ is perfect for a spontaneous cruise along the beach. It is a playful and catchy love song. Though we typically associate a love song with a slow beat, the percussion and guitar strumming in this piece is remarkable. The lyrics just make you smile, If heaven is anywhere. It’s in a blue Tacoma, California. White magnolia in your hair. Rays of gold are shining on ya. Ooh, if heaven is anywhere. What could possibly be more country than riding in a blue Tacoma in California during the summer? This song is sure to get a lot of airplay with the warmer months on the horizon.

Thirty year old Dickerson has been married for more than four years. In an interview on October 13, 2017, Dickerson told Billboard Magazine: “Some people try to put on this facade of being single and desirable, but some people want a relationship. That’s what’s changed for me, is being confident in being taken. It’s the best thing ever.” The feeling of being in love seems to be the inspiration for these lyrics: Ooh, if heaven is anywhere. It’s never running out of golden road. Always having your hand to hold. and If heaven is anywhere. Pull it over to the shoulder. To take it in. Mmh and pull you closer. Loving you longer than I ever did. Going places we’ve never been. It’s refreshing to hear this electric summertime love song.

This past October, Dickerson told US Weekly: “You have to care less about what people think and be unapologetically yourself all the time.” With this confident outlook on life, we are sure to see many more great things to come from Russell Dickerson.

Russell Dickerson wrote ‘Blue Tacoma’ along with Casey Brown and Parker Welling, two of his classmates from Belmont University.

This summer, Russell Dickerson will be in three New England States as part of the Summer Plays On Tour with Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker. The tour will arrive in Gilford, NH at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion on 7/27, in Hartford, CT at the Xfinity Theater on 7/28, and in Mansfield, MA at the Xfinity Center on 9/22.

Favorite Lyrics: Red sun melting to the black top. Dollar shades from a nowhere truck stop. Your kiss and that coast line. If heaven is anywhere.
