On Tuesday, January 7th, the country music’s Rascal Flatts announced that they were headed out on what they are calling a Farewell Tour. They explained to CBS and fans watching the broadcast that they have had an amazing twenty years as a band and they want to celebrate all their past successes on tour with their fans. They also announced that we will hear new music from them this year while they are on tour. However, once the tour is over, they are not sure where the road will take them as artists or a band.
Rascal Flatts was formed in 1999. The members of the band include Gary LeVox as vocalist, Jay DeMarcus on bass guitar and Joe Don Rooney on guitar and banjo. Throughout the years, the band has had fourteen Number One singles and accumulated over two dozen awards ranging from CMT, CMA, ACM, BMI and more.
As news broke this morning about this possibly being their last tour and not knowing where the future will take them, I took the time to listen and reflect on some of my favorite songs off their albums. The list below breaks down my top fifteen favorite songs by Rascal Flatts.
‘Rascal Flatts’
- ‘This Everyday Love’
- ‘I’m Moving On’
‘Melt’
- ‘Mayberry’
- ‘These Days’
‘Feels Like Today’
- ‘Fast Cars and Freedom’
- ‘Feel Like Today’
‘Me and My Gang’
- ‘Stand’
- ‘Backwards’
‘Still Feels Good’
- ‘Every Day’
- ‘Take Me There’
‘Unstoppable’
- ‘Here Comes Goodbye’
‘Nothing Like This’
- ‘Easy’ (Ft. Natasha Bedingfield)
‘Rewind’
- ‘I Like the Sound of That’
- ‘Rewind’
‘Back to Us’
- ‘Yours If You Want It’
Now, don’t get me wrong, ‘God Bless This Broken Road’ and ‘My Wish’ are some of my favorite songs too. But, when you listen to the entire album, not just the hit singles, you will find hidden gems. For example, ‘Backwards,’ off the album ‘Me and My Gang’ is a funny, fast paced, upbeat song that you just can’t help but smile and sing along to.
Rascal Flatts will always be known in the country music industry as a legendary band. They were excellent songs writers, performers and people. They write, sing and play songs that get you moving in your seat at their concert or crying in your car to a heartfelt melody.
If the 2020 year is the end of the road for Rascal Flatts, they had an amazing career and accomplished so much as a band. If you’re a long time Rascal Flatts fan like myself and apart of the Flatt dog pound, I’m sure you are hoping and praying that this isn’t the end of the road and there’s more to come.
If you haven’t heard any of the songs I listed above, be sure to check them out. Some might make you smile, some might make you cry, but most of all, they all tell a story.
