On May 19th, the up-and-coming Logan Mize released his ‘Pawn Shop Guitar‘ EP, which features five songs, each of which were co-written by Logan, including his smash hit ‘Can’t Get Away From a Good Time,’ which can currently be heard on country radio after some early support for Sirius XM The Highway. New England Country Music gave a listen to Logan’s highly anticipated EP. Check out our review below and give ‘Pawn Shop Guitar’ a listen for yourself.
1.) ‘Thank God for You’ – Written by Logan Mize, Blake Chaffin, Jon McElroy, and Randy Montana.
Impression: Mize kicks off the EP with a song about a woman that can pull him away from his ‘devils.’ We love the transition of the man in the song as the track begins with a young man with an ego and ends with the lyrics, ‘Now I hardly know the man in the mirror; But I kind of like what you did here.‘ The song really shows a progression of maturity and how the woman in the song can ground him and bring him back to reality.
Favorite Lyric: I thank God there’s angels for young wild rebels. Girls who can dance you away from the devil…
2.) ‘El Camino’ – Written by Logan Mize and Blake Chaffin.
Impression: We recently saw Thompson Square hit it out of the park with ‘Trans Am,’ and Logan Mize follows suit with his car themed ‘El Camino.’ The song is a fun and flirtatious song that uses the Chevrolet coupe utility vehicle to lure a woman. Fun fact- Chevrolet originally released the vehicle in response to Ford’s Ranchero; which explains the lyrics in the chorus that say ‘But girl he’s just jealous of me; Can’t handle the fact that I can smoke his Ranchero.’
Favorite Lyric: Yeah, you’re driving me loco, ss-senorita you’re fine. Here’s me talkin’ dirty in my best Espanol. Let’s have a party in my El Camino…
3.) ‘Can’t Get Away From a Good Time’ – Written by Logan Mize, Kelly Archer, and Blake Chaffin.
Impression: We heard this song awhile, and fell in love with it the first time we heard it. And others have to as the song has amassed over 120,000 downloads and over 4 million streams! The fun song which describes how one thing led to another, from a weed whacker running out of gas turning into a full blown party. The song is addictive and catchy. And with one listen, you will be hooked just as we are.
Favorite Lyric: One cold one turned into four, four’s got a way of turnin’ into more. Bust out the wieners, bust out the buns. Fire up the grill, gonna have a little fun…
4.) ‘Better Off’ – Written by Logan Mize and Casey Beathard.
Impression: What’s a country EP or album without a song about breaking up? This break up song is a phenomenal one with fantastic lyrics that bring light to a break up by acknowledging that the two are better off separate and as friends than together as a couple. Besides ‘Can’t Get Away From a Good Time,’ this is our favorite track on the EP.
Favorite Lyric: We’re better off without the strings. No tangled up fightin’ over silly things…
5.) ‘What I Love About You’ – Written by Logan Mize and Casey Beathard.
Impression: Being a husband himself, there is probably no doubt that Logan penned this song as a tribute to his wife. The song lists all of the things he loves about her. We particularly love how Logan amps up the tempo of the song for the chorus. It’s a beautiful love song and one that Logan should be very proud of.
Favorite Lyric: Like to raise a little hell, love your God in Heaven. Red and white and blue and lucky 7’s…
