LOCASH: ‘I Love This Life’ EP Review

LOCASH, the duo made up of Chris Lucas and Preston Brust, dropped ‘I Love This Life’ October 30, following up their hit single of the same title. The release brings the upbeat party we’ve come to know and love from the duo while also showing some of their other sides. Each song on ‘I Love This Life’ compliments all of the others so well. The two have been hitting the road pretty much non-stop for the past year, including numerous stops up here in New England, growing the anticipation for the EP.

1.) ‘I Love This Life’ –Written by Danny Myrick, Chris Janson, Chris Lucas, and Preston Brust.
Impression: LOCASH released ‘I Love This Life’ as a single earlier this year. The upbeat, positive song portrays images of some of the best little moments in life. It’s hard to be in a bad mood while listening to this Top 20 hit.
Favorite Lyric: I love that taste of her lips when she’s been sipping that wine; I still get drunk on her every time…

2.) ‘I Know Somebody’ –Written by Rhett Akins, Ross Copperman, and Jeremy Stover.
Impression: This is the only song on the release not written by one or both of the members of the duo. The guys knew what they were doing when they included this on the EP. The song perfectly captures the emotion of having a huge crush with the instrumentation driving the excitement, while the lyrics cover the playful, nervous side of things.
Favorite Lyric:  Somebody who’s lost all in your smile, that can love you like a song on the radio dial, if that’s what you want tonight, I know somebody and you’re looking right in his eyes…

3.) ‘Shipwrecked’ –Written by Preston Brust,  Michael Tyler, and Lindsay Rimes.
Impression: This song has stuck with me since seeing LOCASH at the Taste of Country Festival this spring. Driven by piano, the guys deliver a Powerful (capital P required) ballad, which answers classic question, “what would you bring if you were stranded on a desert island”. In this case, it’s not anything, but rather someone . Once again, LOCASH absolutely nails the song, conveying the message with the whole package from vocal performance to instrumentation to incredible lyrics. Side snote: for those of you who might be interested, ‘Shipwrecked’ is also the name of the duo’s wine.
Favorite Lyric:  When the waves get high, no land in sight, you’re the lighthouse in the middle of the night…

4.) ‘Ain’t Startin Tonight’ –Written by Preston Brust, Jaron Boyer, and Michael Tyler.
Impression:  LOCASH picks it back up with this song about getting over an ex that will have you tapping your feet or nodding along to the music.  In the song a newly single guy is letting everyone know not to worry about him, he’s going to be just fine. It’s a different perspective because it seems most of the ‘happy’ break up songs are by females. The guys do a great job with it!
Favorite Lyric: I’m gonna kiss the girl if she lets me; gonna show her around in my Chevy, hope you hear about it all over this town…

5.) ‘Drunk Drunk’ –Written by Preston Brust, Chris Lucas, Steve Stokes, and Brian Thomas.
Impression:  It wouldn’t be a LOCASH release without a great party song.  After a few emotionally charged songs, ‘Drunk Drunk’ is just a great laid back song for hanging out and having a few drinks. It’s reggae island sound transports you to a beach and with winter quickly approaching here in New England, we need a song like this to remind us of warmer weather!
Favorite Lyric: Nothing but coconut aroma, slip into a tropical coma, turn my beach chair into a sofa…

6.)Til The Wheels Fall Off’ – Written by Preston Brust, Jaron Boyer, and Matt Bronleewe.
Impression: The release wraps up with a song inspired by an old Western film. Preston was watching a movie one day and the female character told her man that she was nervous on their covered wagon. In that confident cowboy way, he told her “baby we’re going to ride this thing til the wheels fall off.” Preston took that line and ran with it, writing a great song that captures the feeling of that forever type of love.
Favorite Lyric: They say new beginnings are oh so sweet, but I can’t wait to look on down the road to see where we could be…

LOCASH did an amazing job putting this EP together. Each song starts with great songwriting and lyrics, but are made complete awesome beats in instrumentation that fit the message. You don’t just listen to these songs, you feel them. Whether in your car, at a party, or at work, you’ll catch yourself dancing along while listening!
