Kasey Tyndall is one of the fastest growing names in country music right now. Rolling Stone recently named her to their ‘10 New Country Artists You Need to Know’ list. In addition to her music being widely shared, she is growing her fan base by touring with acts ranging from Christian rock groups to Wheeler Walker Jr. Each audience is drawn to her for her incredible stage presence and relatable songs. We were able to chat with the road warrior as she was crossing Wisconsin to play a show with Big & Rich.
Kasey’s current single is the rockin’ ‘Bar That’s Open.’ She co-wrote the song with fellow artists on the rise Lainey Wilson and Ashley McBryde. The crew got together at Lainey’s manager’s office- “She went in and got a big bottle of Jack Daniels… set it on the table and said ‘let’s right a good song today girls.'” The outcome was the ‘Bar That’s Open’ which so far has amassed over a quarter of a million Spotify streams!
‘Bar That’s Open’ is a logical follow up Kasey’s debut single ‘Everything Is Texas.’ Whereas ‘Bar That’s Open’ reminds us that “for every heart that’s broken, there’s a bottle flowing and a jukebox glowing,” ‘Everything Is Texas’ explores the more emotional side of losing someone. As Kasey explained “whether it be like a breakup or somebody passes away or moves away, somehow they just leave your life, everything reminds you of that person. In my case I was dating a guy from Texas who had to move away and when he moved away, everything was Texas.” She got together with Lainey Wilson again on this one, and they put together a great song that anyone who has lost someone can relate to.
Both these singles are on her debut album ‘Between Salvation and Survival.’ The release is the culmination of over 2 years of hard work. Kasey said that while she probably could have released some of it sooner, she held off. “We wanted it to be a perfect introduction to my fans. Like I said, I’ve been writing for 2 years and I’m just really proud of all the hard work we put into it. This album says ‘hey this is me, I can’t wait to hang out with you guys, come to my shows, lets party’ and this is who I am, jump into my diary. This is all of that in one album and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.” Anyone who has been to one of her shows can vouch for the fact that they should come ready to party!
Kasey says while at first it was a little scary to play new music to a live audience, her focus while writing on having music people can relate to has paid off: “Especially being a new artist, people at the shows don’t really know who I am yet, so introducing new music can be scary, but they’ve really been connecting and I think that’s because when I write songs, I write songs so that people can connect hearing it for the first time.” Even fans of raunchy country artist Wheeler Walker Jr. were able to connect to her music- “that tour proved that all types of people can come together and have one thing in common and that is music and I love that. I love that music brings people together.”
Over the past few years Kasey has toured with many artists including Casey Donahew, Parmalee. She made a point of saying how grateful she is for these opportunities. “I have been super fortunate with every single band I’ve been on the road with their crews are amazing. The artists have been amazing and I’ve just really learned how to craft my art on stage, how I entertain, and it has given me an wonderful platform to introduce myself to so many parts of the country and really the world.”
The dream of having a career in country music was something Kasey considered to be a long shot growing up in North Carolina. She was a nursing student at East Carolina when she won a contest to sing Miranda Lambert’s part on ‘We Were Us’ with Keith Urban at a stop on his tour. That night she gained thousands of fans, but arguably more importantly that night led her to her manager Dave Rose. She was able to go from a nursing student who “didn’t know how to get (her) feet wet in the industry” to a singer-songwriter with an awesome debut album and a bright future in country music.
Big thanks to Kasey for being so generous with her time. Be sure to get Between Salvation and Survival and keep an eye on her website for tour dates and all sorts of other good stuff!
