Late last week, Maren Morris’ ‘I Could Use A Love Song’ reached Number One on the charts and by Sunday morning, it remained there, officially making it the Number One song on country radio for the week. Looking at the charts the past few weeks, it was pretty evident that the single would eventually hit that top spot. But as we scrolled through our social media, we kept seeing people congratulate Maren on her first Number One. We thought they had made a mistake but later a press release received confirmed that ‘I Could Use A Love Song’ was indeed her first Number One as both a solo performer and songwriter.
But we kept thinking, how is this possible? It can’t be true, right? I mean Maren’s first two singles were absolute jams! ‘My Church’ was a Platinum-certified single and ’80’s Mercedes’ was Gold-certified by the RIAA. And both were massively popular songs in 2016. Maybe two of the most popular songs to be released that year. But with a little research, we realized that everyone was correct- ‘I Could Use A Long Song’ is Maren’s first Number One. ‘My Church’ peaked at number nine on the US Country Airplay Charts, while ’80’s Mercedes’ got to number twelve. We were and still are kinda blown away that these two songs weren’t Number One’s- hell, we were convinced they were. It’s an absolute shame that those two songs weren’t Number One’s since they easily warranted that top spot on the charts. The songwriting was there. The sound was there. The vocals were definitely there. Either way, we’re excited for Maren’s next jam of a single. We know it’s gonna be. It has to be.
