Coreyfest: More Than Just a Festival

2017 brings in the third annual year for the Coreyfest. This event is held at the Royale Night Club in Boston’s theatre district and sells out every year. This festival has featured nationally known acts such as LOCASH and David Nail. Almost 1200 people attended the event in 2016, and this year, the event is following suit with being sold out. The headliner is none other than Old Dominion accompanied by solo artist Alec MacGillivray and the band Dalton and the Sheriffs will also play. Each has a unique, modern take on country music with some New England flavor. Alec MacGillivray and Dalton and the Sheriffs have played every CoreyFest and have donated their time and talents to this event! The concert is being held Thursday, November 2nd.

Coreyfest is more than just a festival for the fans; it’s about philanthropy. It was created in memory of Corey C. Griffin (1986-2014). The Corey C. Griffin Foundation provides strategic financial support to Boston’s most innovative non-profits focused on underprivileged youth as well as those with medical challenges. Through their high-impact partnerships with leading academic and healthcare organizations, they are providing critical opportunities to “Corey’s Kids”, and building upon Corey Griffin’s legacy of giving back while encouraging others to do the same. The impact of the Foundation’s financial support can be seen across dozens of carefully selected partnerships, with children across the Greater Boston area benefitting on a daily basis. Known lovingly as ‘Corey’s Kids’, it is through these children that Corey Griffin’s legacy will live on forever.

Another way the Corey Foundation honors Corey Griffin’s legacy of philanthropy is by partnering with the Ron Burton Training Village. This rural camp is located in Hubbardston, Massachusetts and runs programs year-round. The children who attend the camp learn academic, leadership, fitness and character building skills. Another initiative sponsored by the Foundation is the Corey C. Griffin Memorial Scholarship, which is for graduating seniors. It has offered many scholarships to the Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood. The scholarships are given to students who exemplify the values of faith, compassion and a dedication to family and friends, which the late Corey Griffin demonstrated.

Suffolk Construction, an innovator in the construction industry with locations across the country, is sponsoring the Coreyfest through its giving arm, Suffolk Cares. They give not only funds, but also volunteer manpower for charitable causes.
