Celebrating ‘After Midnight’

You may be asking, who is Lyssa Coulter? Lyssa is a singer and songwriter from Medway, MA. Though she’s only twenty years old, she is well on her way to making a name for herself. Her country-pop style of music is what listeners are craving. Lyssa is already quite accomplished. In 2017 she recorded her first single, ‘By My Side,’ in Nashville, TN. She has performed locally at venues such as Indian Ranch in Webster, MA, Cheers in Boston, MA, and at the Topsfield Fair. As part of her natural evolution from preforming artist to recording artist, Lyssa has gone on to release her first EP, titled ‘After Midnight.’

The EP release party was held at The Smoke House in Cambridge, a popular barbecue restaurant known for its extensive whiskey selection and live music. The room was crowded with many people there to support Lyssa. Jessica Callahan and 101.7 The Bull’s ‘street team’ was in attendance. She had some special guest performances in the line-up as well.

Lyssa started off the night by giving thanks to special guests Tim Buono, Chris Moreno, and Scarlett Drive by saying: “All of these musicians here somehow impacted my musical journey.”

Tim Buono performed his single ‘Summertime Thing.’ He then covered the Eagles’ classic ‘Take It Easy.’ His music has a hip, upbeat vibe.

Next up was Lyssa with her first set. She started off with the first single released from her album entitled ‘Whiskey in the Twilight.’ It’s a song about summer romance. That summertime feeling really came through in her lyrics. She then played Zac Brown Band’s ‘Chicken Fried.’ It was a real crowd pleaser and everyone was singing along. She sang Shania Twain’s ‘Feel Like a Woman’ and did amazing. Paying tribute to their favorite artist, Kelsea Ballerini, Lyssa and her good friend Kailey sang a duet of ‘Yeah Boy.’ Finally, Lyssa performed one of her originals ‘Me.’ It is a very deep and reflective song. In Lyssa’s own words “It’s about not being afraid to be yourself and be who you are.”

Guest number two of the night was Chris Moreno. He sang his song ‘Try’ which is very beautiful. Then he had the crowd singing along with Tom Petty’s ‘Free Fallin.’ Chris’ voice is smooth and flawless.

Lyssa started off her second set with ‘Sweet Home Alabama.’ The crowd was singing along. She gave credit to her band mates, Larry Scrip and Ricky Franceschi, then continued with her next single off her EP entitled ‘Pain.’ She also played Kelsea Ballerini’s hit ‘Peter Pan’ and Sam Hunt’s ‘Leave The Night On.’ It was clear that she was having a blast preforming these two tunes.

The final guests of the night were Scarlett Drive. They Played their song ‘If You Wanna.’ Ashley sang lead vocals of an 80s classic ‘I Don’t Wanna Lose Your Love Tonight’ by The Outfield. Scarlett Drive delivers soulful harmonies.

Lyssa finished the night off with her fourth single ‘Wish You Could.’ She went on to sing two crowd pleasers; Darius Rucker’s ‘Wagon Wheel,’ and Garth Brook’s ‘Friends in Low Places.’ Lyssa ended the night with her very first single ‘By My Side.’

The celebration was spectacular. The music really energized the crowd and everyone enjoyed themselves. Lyssa was so much fun to watch and listen to. This is likely the first of many more great things to come from Lyssa Coulter.
