Alan Jackson: ‘The Older I Get’ Single Review

Alan Jackson has produced over twenty albums and thirty-four number-one hits on country radio. The 59 year-old Country Music Hall of Famer has recently released his newest single appropriately titled ‘The Older I Get.’ His age has proven to be no match for his ability to turn out another timeless song.

‘The Older I Get’ was meaningfully written by Adam Wright, Hailey Whitters, and Sarah Allison Turner. It blends calming acoustic guitar and fiddle sounds. Jackson’s vocals are soft and soothing. This sentimental piece details how Jackson is feeling about his life when looking back through the lens of time. Lyrics such as: And the older I get, the truer it is. It’s the people you love, not the money and stuff. That makes you rich, also serve as sage advice for the listener. Alan Jackson told Rolling Stone Magazine: “This song reflects a lot of how I feel these days. It’s a good song. I really liked it, but the message was a little different when I first heard it. I thought maybe it could be a little more positive about being older and wiser and more content, so they rewrote a few things, and this is how it ended up.” Jackson fans who enjoy his powerful tracks ‘When the World Stopped Turning’ and ‘Remember When,’ will find this newest song to be just as poignant and meaningful as these earlier works.

‘The Older I Get’ was released this past October. It is Jackson’s first studio recording since the 2015 song ‘Angels and Alcohol.’ No release date has been set for Jackson’s newest album, though keep an eye out for it in 2018.
