Dublin City Council leaves Garth fans with “Unanswered Prayers”

Well it seems that the battle over Garth Brooks remaining three concerts between Dublin’s Croke Park neighbors and Aiken Promotions has come to an end. Unfortunately, the shows won’t go on per this statement from Aiken:

“It is with great regret that Aiken Promotions today announce that the five concert Garth Brooks Comeback Special Event at Croke Park has been cancelled. No concerts will take place. The ticket return process will be outlined tomorrow. Aiken Promotions have exhausted all avenues regarding the staging of this event. We are very disappointed for the 400,000 fans who purchased tickets for the Garth Brooks Comeback Special Event.”

Last week, two of the show were cancelled by the city council due to neighbor’s complaints about the inevitable noise and traffic. Just last night the Dublin council voted to allow all five shows to go on but the city manager upheld the initial ruling. Garth took a stance of 5 shows or none as he likened it to “choosing between his kids” when given the task of choosing which two shows to cancel. This is a sad turn of events as now 400,000 ticket holders are out of luck and the city has lost a great deal of revenue that these shows would’ve generated. Rumors today had officials from Aiken travelling to the United States in a last ditch effort to convince Garth to play.

Garth Brooks has scheduled a press conference for this Thursday, July 10th at 12:00 p.m. and be streamed live on his website. It’s expected he will address the cancellation of these concerts but also announce his big North America concert plans. Stay tuned to ne-countrymusic.com for all the latest news on this event.
