Bluegrass duo Dailey & Vincent are teaming up with Cracker Barrel Old Country Store to release a live in concert album and DVD. They recently took the time to talk to New England Country Music about the new album and what it’s like working with Cracker Barrel.
Before forming Dailey & Vincent in 2007, Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent followed similar paths in the world of Bluegrass. Jamie and Darrin were each GRAMMY Award winning members of other Bluegrass bands, Jamie with Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, and Darrin with Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. Growing up, each had similar influences. Jamie said his major influences were The Statler Brothers and Frank Sinatra, while Darrin said that he aligned with artists like Ricky Skaggs, Emmylou Harris, and The Osmond Brothers.
When it came to recording ‘Dailey & Vincent- ALIVE In Concert’ which was recorded live at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas, Virginia, Darrin said, “we’ve been asked for many years, a lot of people want to take our show home with them.” He also said it was more stressful doing a live album because there are a lot of moving parts. Trying to pick which songs they wanted to include on the album was difficult, Darrin said, “we tried to get the ones that fit together, it’s like a jigsaw puzzle, you have all these great songs.” Jamie said it was challenging because there are so many things that can go wrong, “when you see things go wrong you’re like oh gosh we’ve gotta get that fixed”
As far as their favorite to perform off the album, Darrin tells us ‘American Pride’ is his favorite and it’s actually one that was written by Jamie. He went on to say, “It’s very patriotic but it’s just a great storyline and it makes me feel good every time I hear it. It talks about our flag, and America, and the pride that we have in America.” Jamie said that his favorite song off the album is ‘I’ll Leave My Heart in Tennessee’ which is an instrumental tune.
‘Dailey & Vincent- ALIVE In Concert’ is the third collaboration between Dailey & Vincent and Cracker Barrel. Jamie said of working with Cracker Barrel, “they’re great partners, good people, and they serve a great product and they’re always up for a new challenge with the music end of it. It makes it a lot of fun to work with them.” Darrin said, “It’s a huge opportunity for us, they’re great people to work with.” He went on to say that “A lot of their customers are who comes to our shows, so it’s our demographic and we feel like Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and Dailey & Vincent music fit hand in hand.”
The live album and DVD ‘Dailey & Vincent- ALIVE in Concert’ will be available exclusively at all Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Locations on April 27th. Dailey & Vincent will be spending a lot of time out on the road this year, with a couple of stops coming to New England in September. They will be in Somerville, MA on September 3rd and Fort Fairfield, ME on September 6th.
