Nate Green is ‘Wild and Free’

‘Wild and Free,’ Nate Green’s debut single off his ‘Road Map’ EP, was described by Green as a song that’s about being happy with what you have and Nate Green has found that happiness in his music career. Growing up in Kentucky, country music was a constant in Green’s life as he showed horses when he was younger, and country music would be on the radio as he and his family traveled for shows.

Country music was simply what he knew and what he grew up on.  “Country music is about life.  Every song is about something.  It’s a feeling, or a story, or a situation or something real. I don’t think any other genre focuses primarily on that like country music does, and that’s why I like country.”  Nate’s desire to be a musician seemed natural.  He did learn though, that he couldn’t just be that singer he originally wanted to be.  Green was told after meeting with an agent that he was going to have to work if he wanted to make it in Nashville. “I just wanted to be a singer.  I didn’t know anything about writing, or playing.  I met with an agent when I was 19 and he was like, ‘if you want to make it in this town, you have to learn to write.”

Nate learned to play the guitar, and fell in love with the song writing element of country that is so critical to the genre. “I didn’t realize how involved songwriting would be. I didn’t know how to do it, but once I figured it out, it came really naturally.” He was willing to work on his songwriting craft so much that he set out on an international trip to explore and figure out what he wanted to write about, and his sound as an artist. He was on the road for six months with stops in Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain and Mexico.  Nate’s travels helped him find inspiration and his sound, which he described as inventive and all over the place.  That sound is present in Green’s EP, titled ‘Road Map,’ which was released in early January of this year.  “The fan reaction has been cool because ‘Wild and Free’ was a good introduction to the sound I was going to be doing, so I think it’s been pretty well received as to how different it sounds. I think a lot of my fans are excited and surprised at the same time.”

Of the tracks on the EP, ‘Back Road’ was summarized by Green as a defining moment that they really experimented heavily with different sounds and realized it worked for the single.  ‘Love Again’ is another favorite for Green writing wise because it was the last single added for the album, and was an unexpected add.  Nate is looking forward to touring as he wants to get out there and play for his fans.  “I know people can be digitally reached, but I’m really trying to get a tour together and perform these songs live.”
