On Thursday, November 13th, Country 102.5 WKLB brought Oklahoma duo The Swon Brothers to Beantown for an invitation-only and extremely intimate show at Loretta’s Last Call. The show was full of great music, a bunch of laughs, and some great insight on the two brothers.
The afternoon started with the brothers answering some questions from the crowd, and through their answers, it was extremely apparent that they are brothers as they were constantly ragging on each other and making fun of each other. But we did learn that Colton is the more responsible brother (as Zach said) and Zach’s biggest strength is his voice while his biggest weakness at times is humility. We also learned that the guys would love to do a song with their coach from NBC’s The Voice, Blake Shelton, but they are waiting to find the right song. The brothers were simply a riot as they had the crowd laughing
The Swons started the afternoon by taking a request from the crowd and the first song that was requested was ‘This Side of Heaven,’ which the duo described as the ‘most difficult song on the album.’ Unfortunately, Carrie Underwood, who is featured on the track was unable to make it to Boston so their band member, Seth Costner, had to fill in for the country megastar.
The second song that the Swons played was ‘Pretty Beautiful,’ which they dedicated to all the girls in attendance. But before they did, they had some fun with one of the few guys in attendance saying that since he was there alone and there were a bunch of pretty girls there alone, that he needed to make a move. It was just one of the many times in which the Swons had the crowd at Loretta’s laughing which made it a comfortable scene. Speaking of ladies, even though he may be ‘all about that bass,’ Colton turned down the rumors that him and Meghan Trainor are seeing each other. They simply took a picture together at the CMA Awards and it was blown out of proportion after the photo was put on Instagram.
Next, the Swons went into their current single ‘Pray For You,’ but before they did, the brothers gave a little background behind the song by saying that after ‘Later On’ they received a fuzzy iPhone recording of a guy and his guitar and Colton said, “We looked at each other, and we don’t agree on a lot, but we looked at each other and the first time hearing it we said ‘we have to cut this song.’ They wrote it that day and we took it that day. It’s one of those songs that hit us right in the heart. We related to it. I think just by playing it for people around, I think a lot of people relate to it too. There’s something real about it.”
But the guys couldn’t leave Boston without playing their smash hit, ‘Later On,’ and the crowd at Loretta’s loved it as it got their hands clapping and their feet stomping.
The intimate show ended with a group photo and a bunch of selfies with the guys on stage. It was a great honor and experience to not only meet the guys but also to see them perform live especially in an environment like this.
