Michael Ray: ‘Get to You’ Single Review

On the heels of his second Number One, Michael Ray has dropped a new single, ‘Get to You,’ an introduction to his second studio album. The single was originally scheduled for release on Friday, June 16th, but due to an outpouring of support from fans, Ray decided to make the song available late Thursday night. By Friday, the single was in the Top 15 on iTunes and was trending on iTunes and Apple Music.

The promo for the song featured Michael driving through different landscapes, and although it may look like it could have been ‘Driving All Night’ 2.0, his new single goes much deeper. ‘Get to You’ explores the emotions after a relationship has left you feeling hurt, betrayed, closed off and scared to love again – feelings that many are familiar with. But in this song, Michael is on the flipside of that situation. The Florida native sings about trying to break through walls and convince a girl who’s sworn off love that it’s worth it to let someone in again. ‘Get to You’ is full of heartfelt and honest lyrics that convey a pretty universal message, regardless of which side of the story you may fall on, it’s something that’s sure to connect with fans.

Although written by Abe Stoklasa and Pavel Dovgalyuk, Michael sings the song with such conviction, one might be surprised they aren’t the 29 year old’s own words. The mid-tempo track shows off Ray’s range as he takes his vocals to new levels, and the simple melody of the chorus is one that will be stuck in your head all day. Every element of this song gives you something to love. Michael could have easily chosen a single suitable for a summer release, one that you would want to crank up with your windows down or crack open a beer to. But ‘Get to You’ expresses depth and growth, and unquestionably generates intrigue about what’s to come on Ray’s upcoming sophomore album. We wouldn’t be surprised if the singer had his third Number One hit on his hands with this one.

We can’t wait to see Michael perform ‘Get To You’ and hopefully some other brand new songs at the 3rd Annual New England Country Music Festival on August 6th in Portsmouth, NH. You don’t want to miss out. Make sure you get your tickets before it’s too late!

Favorite Lyrics: Girl, there’s always gonna be some pain / A little sunshine, a little rain / It doesn’t mean it ain’t worth it, babe…

You can purchase your copy of Michael’s new single on iTunes and Google Play.

‘Get to You’ is also available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming services.
