Little Big Town: ‘Happy People’ Single Review

On Friday, February 17th, Little Big Town released the second single from their new album, ‘The Breaker.’ Written by Little Big Town, Hailey Whitters, and Massachusetts-native songstress Lori McKenna, the bouncy country song is a sweet reminder that life is short and we should all be kind to each other during our time on earth. This single was not the first time that Little Big Town and McKenna have written together. The dynamic duo have been writing together for years, Lori making stops by the group’s various venues when they are in town. Together, they have written some of Little Big Town’s greatest hits such as ‘Girl Crush’, ‘Your Side of the Bed’, and ‘Sober.’ McKenna loves writing with Little Big Town and it shows as everything they write together comes out simply stunning with a wise message and tone.

The new single, ‘Happy People’ is supported by a bouncy, train-like chug, and like most Little Big Town songs, is complimented with rich harmonies. Throughout the song, Fairchild lists the qualities of ‘happy people’ and what those people would do on a daily basis. She says happy people don’t ‘cheat,’ ‘lie,’ ‘hate,’ or ‘steal.’ The song gives an optimistic and hopeful outlook on how people should act towards each other: ‘[happy people] don’t judge or hold a grudge or criticize.’

The song goes on to end with the line that happens to be my favorite out of the whole song.

Favorite Lyrics: Life is short and love is rare, and we all deserve to be happy while we’re here…
